Professor Obviously ("the Site", "we", "us") is operated from the United Kingdom, and UK data protection law (UK GDPR) applies to how we handle your information. This page explains, in plain language, what we collect and why. Privacy matters to us — and, given the nature of the Site, we know it matters to you.
Your account: a username, a display name you choose, your email address and your password. Passwords are stored only in strongly hashed form — we cannot see them.
What you choose to share: profile details (avatar, bio), posts, comments and likes. Everything you post to the community is visible to other members, so share only what you are comfortable with.
Membership status: whether your account is free or paid. Payment itself is handled entirely by our payment processor — card numbers and billing details never touch our servers and we can never see them. The processor's own privacy policy applies to the payment step.
Usage information: basic counts of page visits and audio plays, used to understand what members enjoy. Standard server logs (including IP addresses) are kept briefly for security.
Cookies: we use one essential cookie to keep you signed in, and your browser remembers your 18+ confirmation. There are no advertising or tracking cookies on this Site.
Running your account and membership; sending account emails (verification codes, password resets, replies to your messages); moderating the community; keeping the Site secure; and understanding, in aggregate, how the Site is used. That's all. We do not send marketing emails without your consent.
We do not sell or rent your information to anyone, ever. Your data is shared only with the services needed to run the Site — our hosting provider, our email delivery service and our payment processor — and only as far as needed for them to do their jobs. We would disclose information to authorities only where the law requires it.
Your account data is kept while your account exists. If you want your account and its data deleted, ask via the contact form and we will remove it. Server logs are rotated automatically.
Under UK GDPR you can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Use the contact form for any of these. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
If this policy changes in any meaningful way, we will say so on the Site.
